CMS Content Management System Design - adding a new video template type
Because I was a designer focusing content heavy UX, I worked on multiple design features to improve the CMS, such as improving findability on the dashboard, improving the content uploading process with fewer manual process - clicks and tabs, and mapping out the service design flow to guide the Content team on simplifying their Content workflow.
Define user needs and gather feedback
Content feedback: Having search by title should be sufficient, but it’s still a nice-to-have for the search by ID.
ENG feedback: We learned that it wasn’t possible to search the video title and ID in one search bar field
Once we defined these user needs and technical constraints, PM and I had a clear alignment on PRD and user needs
Product requirements
Media Objects
Can search existing Media objects by title and/or Video ID and select one > search box
When selected, link to media object details page in Gen Admin is available to view entire metadata
External Video Objects
Can embed Vimeo or YouTube
Impact
Content operation team was satisfied. They said it was easy to learn and use; the videos were successfully launched to the member experience without admin issues.
